Email Writing Tips 7 – Use standard phrases

Do your emails read as if they just popped out of some translation machine? Or, worse yet, as if from some time machine—out of the past? If so, then:

  • • Simplify your vocabulary and sentence patterns (no Shakespeare please)
  • • Re-read naturally flowing email you receive and then try to copy the style
  • • Write email messages as if they were more like 1- way business conversations

After all, isn’t that why we created email (i.e. as an alternative to conversation)? Also, you should note that your readers often never get to meet you. But, they will get to judge you: by your writing. So, keep it natural and leave Shakespeare in the theatre.
