Successful Global Email Series 16:
Match casual greetings & closings

Below are greetings and complimentary closings that are considered ‘more casual’ in the global business world. Also, although they are roughly arranged from less casual to more casual, they can be safely matched with each other.

Hello Liza,
Hi Liza,
Liza,
Liza, (Greeting can be omitted for email chats)

Thank you and regards,
Thanks and regards,
Best regards,
Regards,
Thanks,
See you,
Regards, (Complimentary Closing can also be omitted)

So, make sure to match these up with your more casual messages. And, if you like, you can even convert phrases into complimentary closings if they are fewer than 4-5 words. For example, ‘I am looking forward to talking with you in the Monday conference call’ can be converted to:

Talk to you Monday,
Derek
