Want to make your email more ‘reader-friendly’? If so, invest a few more seconds in each email as you use some layout tools: centering, numbering of lists, underlining, using bold, headings, etc. As a result, readers can better understand your message, and you can look more professional… not a bad combination. And, don’t forget that people tend to respond faster to email with more attractive layouts—ones they don’t have to read 5 times to find the key details or points.

Also, note that layout is especially important in multiple-reader messages (e.g. announcements) and when writing to clients and more senior staff: people you need to impress. Just don’t use more than 2-3 tools per message as it may look a bit BUSY.
