Successful Global Presentation Series 15: Use your body

Successful Global Presentation Series 15: Use your body

Are your feet glued to the floor? Are your hands stuck in your pockets or frozen by your sides? We hope not. Moving around throughout your presentation and adding some body gestures, helps expand what we call your ‘Power Base’. Your ‘Power Base’ is the area that you control. The more area you control, the more powerful, confident and interesting you will appear. Some speakers even move out in front of the podium after their presentation to better ‘connect’ with their audience during Q & A. So, next time mark down on your prepared speech 10-15 places where you can add in some natural body gestures or movement. Oh, and don’t forget to practice using them in front of your best training partner: the bathroom mirror! Another helpful body technique is to keep your toes pointed at the audience 90% of the time (this helps you avoid the unprofessional habit of presenting to your slides—instead of your audience).
